Assistant SENCO Training
An opportunity for schools within the Leigh Academies Trust.
A five day training course, delivered by experienced SENCOs and Educational Psychologists, for teaching and non-teaching staff who aspire to become a SENCO or Assistant SENCO. Participants on the course will learn about approaches to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and the requirements of the 2014 Code of Practice for supporting students with SEND. They will also have the opportunity to learn and develop skills including active listening, basic assessment, observation, programme planning and evaluation.

Session 1: Understanding the role of the SENCo. The Code of Practice and statutory procedures.
Session 2: Understanding the roles of other professionals and agencies. Local processes and forums. Information sharing and confidentiality.
Session 3: Childhood emotional and developmental milestones. EPs.
Session 4: Understanding and interpreting whole school data. Monitoring provision mapping.
Session 5: Effective, evidence based interventions for language.
