Have you heard about the ELSA programme? This is a national programme devised and run by Educational Psychologists. For more information about ELSA please see the ELSA Network website: www.elsanetwork.org. It was designed to build the capacity of schools to support the emotional needs of their pupils from within their own resources. It recognises that children learn better and are happier in school if their emotional needs are also addressed.

Date: Wednesday 2 December 2020 Time: 2.00 - 3.00 pm
This is a training course aimed at teaching assistants, which equips them with the knowledge and skills to provide individual or small group interventions for students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Although most ELSAs are teaching assistants, other staff, including office based staff, SENCOs and SENCO assistants, teachers, counsellors and family liaison/ support workers have all completed the training.
This training involves an initial 6 full day training programme followed up by regular training and supervision sessions. Follow up support and supervision is a compulsory element of the training. Psychological supervision using problem solving approaches helps build the ELSA’s confidence and competence and encourages the sharing of both ideas and resources.
