Governance

Effective governance is central to achieving school improvement.

Our role is to work with partners to design and offer training for governors on school improvement, and to develop strategies which support governing bodies to build capacity for effective governance.

Recent projects include:

  • Working with the Medway Governors Association and Medway Governor Services to develop a common dataset provided to all primary school governing bodies in Medway and the deliver training in the use of this data to support and challenge the school leadership team.
  • Delivering a workshop to governors and Headteachers from the Kent Catholic Schools Partnership focused on the central importance of the relationship between the governing body and the school leadership team.
  • Delivering a series of workshops for Medway Governors on the role of governors in school improvement. These workshops were supported by a grant from the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

We are proud to celebrate the achievement of Mr Michael Costello, Chair of the Governors at The Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School who became a National Leader of Governance in 2012 and who shares his experience and expertise with colleagues in a range of schools across the region and nationally.
